Waves in a Shell

Inspired by the organic form of a seashell, "Waves In A Shell" is a wooden structure adorned with undulating LED tubes that capture the natural beauty of rolling ocean waves. By engaging with brass capacitive touch sensors, viewers can manipulate the LED lighting, offering a mesmerizing interactive experience.

I collaborated with Linfone Zhou to bring this project to life, an architect by trade he created the vision in Rhino3D and devised an interlocking bracket system of “waffle joints” to ensure a strong structure but also the ability to disassemble and flat pack the wooden segments for transport and storage.

Fabricated interlocking wooden structure on CNC machine. Designed and fabricated electronic control box for powering 6000+ individually addressable LEDs as well as creating the software control and animations.
